John 'Mac' McWilliams lives near the north end of the Elkhorn Slough, a renowned, beautiful bird & animal sanctuary, located halfway between Monterey & Santa Cruz on the magnificent Central Coast of California.
Originally from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, he has a BFA from VCU & a MA from Purdue. He has been a fellow at art colonies, artist-in-residence & faculty member at universities & colleges in both Virginia & California. For information on his present art courses go to Classes
Mac came to California to work in film & TV, as a Propmaster, Scenic Artist & Art Director. Previously, he was a museum director & curator, and worked as a cartographer & architectural draftsman. He has always taught part-time while working elsewhere.
For the last 12 years he owned Cannery Row Old Book Company, an old & rare bookstore in the Cannery Row District of Monterey, made famous by John Steinbeck. He sold the store to Brian Cassidy, Bookseller in November of 2006 (www.BrianCassidy.net). He now devotes himself to his art & teaching.
