Readying your File for Upload

Note to UIEE file type users:
Booktrakker and Booklist 4x are UIEE based formats (see below).
If you have a UIEE file type that is not one of these,
please send us a sample file (3 or 4 titles) and we will test it.Record Manager and Bookmate can output UIEE files.
For uploads from these two programs, choose “BOOKTRAKKER & RM UIEE” as the “filetype” when you get to the Upload Feature and begin uploading.

Homebase

(Homebase is a trademark of Advanced Book Exchange)

  1. To upload ALL your records follow these instructions:
  2. Open Homebase. Then click IMPORT/EXPORT from the FILE menu. (In Homebase 1, click Export on the Command Center).
  3. A drop down menu appears, select EXPORT but not EXPORT\SEND TO ABE. (In Homebase1, an Export dialogue box appears).
  4. A EXPORT dialogue box will come up. If you are uploading all your listings, UNclick CHANGED SINCE. Make sure ALL BOOKS is checked. Click OK.
  5. Up comes a EXPORT BOOKS AS box. There will be an automatically generated file name with a string of numbers (something like: “DB200204041234”). You will note that the first numbers after the “DB” are today’s date. Write down the file name and its location ( usually C:\Program Files\hb2\export unless you save it elsewhere) and click save.
  6. A PROGRESS box will show the loading of the file. When it is done, an EXPORT completed box comes up. Click OK.
  7. You can now exit Homebase.
  8. Return to the Bookseller Main Page, to the “Upload Book Listings” option. Click the browse button. In the Find File dialogue box, find the file you wrote down ( you may find it in C:\program files\hb2\export\db(today’s date) and click it and click Open. In the File Type pull-down list, choose “HOMEBASE 1” OR “HOMEBASE 2”. Enter your password and click the Submit Upload button.
  9. That’s it. Your books will be added to the ABooksearch.com database and Thank You!
  10. When, in the future, after you make any upload to ABE or any database from Homebase, locate that file in the C:\Program Files\hb2\export and send to ABooksearch.com. This applies to all solds and corrections. All updates will automatically take place when you complete an upload.

 

Booktrakker

Until such time as we support FTP uploads, Booktrakker users will need to send us a file via our online upload feature on the Bookseller Main Page.

To upload ALL your books:

 

  1. Open Booktrakker. Click the ONLINE button. We will assume if you have Booktrakker that you have your Phone Book Entries all set. Then, click the NEW SERVICE button at the bottom.
  2. Up will come a Online Service Wizard box. In the “Select or Type in New Service”, type in an imaginary domain name such as”ottertown.com”. In the “Type in or select the host address..”, type the imaginary domain name preceded by ftp thusly: “ftp.ottertown.com”. Click Next.
  3. The ACCOUNT tab comes up, type in any account name and password. Click next.
  4. Up comes a box that says, “You have not Tested the New Entry. Are You sure You want to Continue?” Click Yes.
  5. Under FILE, a file name should appear in “Choose File to Transfer”, or choose one from the drop down menu, or, if no file name appears type in “upload_1.txt” (no quotes). Click Finish.
  6. Your “ottertown.com” file, “upload_1.txt” is now listed at the bottom. Make sure it is the only one that has its Active box checked, and make sure the Overwrite box is not checked. To the right, under UPLOAD OPTIONS, check “All Online Inventory”. Then click the button, PROCESS AND UPLOAD RECORDS.
  7. An EXPORT box comes up, click Finish. You may now exit Booktrakker.
  8. Return to the Bookseller Main Page, to the “Upload Book Listings” option. Click the browse button. In the Find File dialogue box, find the file you wrote down (it is probably in C:\BTPro\Transfer), hi-light it and click Open. In the File Type pull-down list, choose “BOOKTRAKKER & RM UIEE”. Enter your password and click the Submit Upload button.
  9. That’s it. Your books will be added to the ABooksearch.com database and Thank You!

 

For Partial Inventory Uploads:

 

  1. When you do an upload to any other service from Booktrakker, note down where the file is saved. It is always saved in the \Transfer folder unless you have chosen a different path\name.
  2. After you close out of Booktrakker, return to the Bookseller Main Page, to the “Upload Book Listings” option. Click the browse button. In the Find File dialogue box, find the file you wrote down (it is probably in C:\BTPro\Transfer), hi-light it and click Open. In the File Type pull-down list, choose “BOOKTRAKKER & RM UIEE”. Enter your password and click the Submit Upload button.
  3. That’s it. Simple, isn’t it? Your books will be added to the ABooksearch.com database forthwith.

BookList 4.2

To upload ALL your books:

 

  1. Open BookList. Click the PRINT/EXPORT button.
  2. Up will come a Select for Print or Export box. The last four fields should have today’s date, UNSOLD ONLY, sort by AUTHOR, then by TITLE. Click on SEARCH button.
  3. A SELECTION DISPLAY comes up. Make sure the listings you want to upload appear. Click on EXPORT FILE.
  4. Up comes a EXPORT TO FILE box. Choose the *.msg UIEE option. Enter a name for the file and click EXPORT. Once export is completed, you can exit Booklist.
  5. Return to the Bookseller Main Page, to the “Upload Book Listings” option. Click the browse button. In the Find File dialogue box, find the file you wrote down (it will be in C:\BK4\export), hi-light it and click Open. In the File Type pull-down list, choose “BOOKLIST”. Enter your password and click the Submit Upload button.
  6. That’s it. Your books will be added to the ABooksearch.com database and Thank You!

 

Please Note:

 

For Bookminder, BookHound and all Tab-delimited uploads:
Please load only ‘For Sale’ inventory. ‘Solds’ can be removed either individually through the Search and Edit feature on the Bookseller Main Page or by using the Purge feature to delete all your listings and uploading a clean ‘For Sale’ file. We will have a method for you to upload a ‘solds’ file and have them removed in the future.

 

 

Bookminder

You may remove your ‘solds’ until then either individually through the Search and Edit feature on the Bookseller Main Page or by purging all your records and uploading a new, clean file of all your ‘for sales’.

  2. Open Bookminder. Open Inventory.Then click IMPORT/EXPORT from the FILE menu.
  3. An EXPORT TO FILE box appears.Name the file what you want and save it where you want, but be sure to write down the file’s location.
  4. A box, SPECIFY FIELD ORDER FOR EXPORT comes up. Make sure the field order in the right hand column reads exactly in this order:author
    title
    field3
    edit print field 2
    references
    inventory ID
    priceSet the drop down list for your CHARACTER SET ( for instance, Macintosh or Windows). Click FORMAT OUTPUT USING CURRENT LAYOUT. And click EXPORT.
  5. A PROGRESS box will show the loading of the file. After the exporting is complete, you can exit Bookminder.
  6. Return to the Bookseller Main Page, to the “Upload Book Listings” option. Click the browse button. In the Find File dialogue box, find the file you wrote down, hi-light it and click Open. In the File Type pull-down list, choose “TAB-DELIMITED & BOOKMINDER”. Enter your password and click the Submit Upload button.
  7. That’s it. Your books will be added to the ABooksearch.com database and Thank You!

 

Tab-Based (Tab-Delimited) Files

 

In sending tab-separated files, send only “For Sale” inventory; we will have a procedure for uploading ‘Solds’ soon. You may remove your ‘solds’ until then either individually through the Search and Edit feature on the Bookseller Main Page or by purging all your records and uploading a new, clean file of all your ‘for sales’.

We can accept tab-delimited files as long as the first two fields
are author and title and the last two fields are the book ID# and the price. For example:
Author, Title, ______, ______, ______, ______, ______, Book ID#, Price
Please note that you can have up to 11 fields between the Title and the Book ID field.Once you have saved your Tab-Delimited file, and noted where you saved it,
Return to the Bookseller Main Page, to the “Upload Book Listings” option.
Click the browse button. In the Find File dialogue box, find the file you wrote down,
hi-light it and click Open. In the File Type pull-down list, choose “TAB-DELIMITED & BOOKMINDER”.
Enter your password and click the Submit Upload button.
That’s it. Your books will be added to the ABooksearch.com database and Thank You!Uploading Tab-Delimited files from Bookmate and Bookhound explained below.

Bookmate can output a UIEE file, which we accept under the Booktrakker “filetypr” when you get to the Upload Feature. The below instructions are for tab-delimited files through Bookmate.

In sending tab-separated files, send only “For Sale” inventory; we will have a procedure for uploading ‘Solds’ soon. You may remove your ‘solds’ until then either individually through the Search and Edit feature on the Bookseller Main Page or by purging all your records and uploading a new, clean file of all your ‘for sales’. This may mean you will need to create a record queue of ‘for sale’ inventory listings in Bookmate.

  1. To upload ALL your records follow these instructions:
  2. Open Bookmate. Click EXPORT TO from the FILE menu. Choose “Tab-Delimited”.
  3. An EXPORT RECORDS TO A TAB-DELIMITED FILE box appears. Make sure the first two fields are Author and Title, the next to the last is the Record No./Book ID# and the last one is Price. Make sure you have no more than 15 sequential fields filled in; all others can be turned to [blank] by using the drop-down menu arrows beside each field.
  4. Set FROM to Inventory and RECORDS to All Active. Choose an EXPORT TO FILE NAME, either by typing the path\file in or pressing the SELECT button which will bring up a SAVE AS EXPORT FILE box. If you choose the SELECT button: From SAVE AS TYPE choose All Files and the FILE NAME you type should end in .tab . Jot down or remember where you save the file. Click SAVE.
  5. Back at the EXPORT RECORDS TO A TAB-DELIMITED FILE, click BEGIN.
  6. A box, COMPLETED comes up, telling you the number of records exported. Click OK. You may now exit Bookmate.
  7. Return to the Bookseller Main Page, to the “Upload Book Listings” option. Click the browse button. In the Find File dialogue box, find the file you wrote down, hi-light it and click Open. In the File Type pull-down list, choose “TAB-DELIMITED & BOOKMINDER”. (This is very important, all Tab-Delimited files use the “TAB-DELIMITED & BOOKMINDER” choice). Enter your password and click the Submit Upload button.
  8. That’s it. Your books will be added to the ABooksearch.com database and Thank You!

 

BookHound

  1. To upload ALL your records follow these instructions:
  2. Open BookHound. From ITEMS, click the LIST MY INVENTORY button.
  3. At the bottom of the List page, click EXPORT.
  4. An EXPORT RECORDS TO FILE box comes up. From SAVE AS TYPE choose Tab-separated text files and the FILE NAME you type should end in .tab . Jot down or remember where you save the file. Click SAVE.
  5. Up comes a SPECIFY FIELD ORDER FOR EXPORT box. In the right-hand column, be sure the first two fields are Author and Title, the next-to-last field is the Book ID# and the last field is Price. There should be no more than 15 fields total. Set the CHARACTER SET appropriate for your computer and click “Format Output Using Current Layout. Click EXPORT.
  6. After file is exported, you may exit BookHound.
  7. Return to the Bookseller Main Page, to the “Upload Book Listings” option. Click the browse button. In the Find File dialogue box, find the file you wrote down, hi-light it and click Open. In the File Type pull-down list, choose “TAB-DELIMITED & BOOKMINDER”. (This is very important, all Tab-Delimited files use the “TAB-DELIMITED & BOOKMINDER” choice). Enter your password and click the Submit Upload button.
